No parent want to see their child fail at school. Every parent desires the best for their child. It’s sad to note that some students are forced to repeat the same grade for two consecutive years.
There’s no stupid child or student. Different children learn in different ways and through specific methods. This is why teaching shouldn’t be based on a one size fits all. Slow learners may need thorough attention and assistance in their journey of learning.
Why do students drop out? Why are they frustrated by school instead of seeing school as a stepping stone to their future? There are various factors, but to sum it up there’s no effective collaboration between home, school and social cohesion.
1. Home issues
If a student is not growing in a healthy home, their academic life will be affected. Concentration will be difficult since stress and anxiety from home will be weighing the student down.
Maybe the parents are fighting, a divorce battle, money problems etc all these have negative effects on the student’s performance.
2. School problem
Teachers have a role to play in assisting students perform their best. This role shouldn’t end up in teaching in the classroom only.
There should be a follow up system, coupled with transparent dialogues between teachers and students. Teachers should go an extra mile for the benefit of students.
3. Negative influence
Friends do affect the student’s academic performance. Bad friends may lure students to focus on worthless tasks and forget to put the necessary effort on their studies.
Parents and teachers need to work together here to ensure the student is doing his/her best to ensure an exceptional performance.
There’s nothing wrong with a parent visiting their child at school and find out from the teachers about their student’s performance and behavior.
